Entering a New World Above the Tree Line
Accessible Adventure's Manaslu Circuit Trek Day 10 It takes you further into the remote highlands as you leave Samagaon and head toward the steep village of Samdo (3,875m / 12,713ft). Today’s trek is approximately 8kms which takes 4 to 5 hours, and a steady climb of about 375 meters.
This day signifies a dramatic transition – from frigid temperatures of -5 to 10 degrees Celsius, into the alpine wilderness as the trails become barer. At this point, you are trekking above 12000 feet, and oxygen is scant, the terrain is more severe, and the predominant features even more awe inspiring.
The Forest Fades, The Mountains Dominate
When starting the trek, you will come across scattered birch and juniper woodlands first. The path climbs higher, and eventually, the greenery transitions into a more rugged, alpine region. This dramatic shift in scenery indicates that you are now deep within the high Himalayas.
You will come across long sections of mani walls, which are compassionate stones with Buddhist prayers left to bless the path and its travelers, detailing the journey beneath.
Views of Samdo Peak and Manaslu North
It is at this point that the dense covers give way to the towering peaks, revealing Samdo Peak and the northern face of Manaslu, the focus of today’s hike. Staggering views of these mountains are galore, and they are without doubt among the most remarkable in the entire trek. The shimmering blue sky serves as the zenith’s backdrop that daintily holds the clouds, with snow capped the mountains put forth as pure majesty.
The untouched surroundings are beyond words – remarkably humbling, powerful, and sensitive all in one.
Crossing Old Landslide Zones and Yak Grazing Areas
The path leading to Samdo contains a few decayed landslides offering some challenge and, in certain areas, careful steps. With the guidance from your Accessible Adventure professionals, these obstacles become easy to conquer.
When getting closer to Samdo, the land transforms into large yak grazing fields. Herds of yaks can frequently be observed leisurely traversing the slopes, the sound of their bells resonating through the fresh mountain air.
Insights Into Tibetan Refugee Settlement
It’s as if one has arrived at a remote frontier village that is completely ‘frozen-in-time’ when arriving in Samdo. Located a stone’s throw away from the Tibetan border, Samdo serves as the residence place for Tibetan refugees who fled to this place many decades ago. The places they live and the traditions they follow smoothly give an insight into the real Himalayan civilization which is influenced by resilience and simplicity.
While en route to Samdo, you are welcomed by stone-built houses, burning prayer flags, and temples alongside friendly locals. Even with the harsh living standards, Samdo still manages to capture the beauty of nature, which makes it one of the most desired places for tourists.
Early Arrival Means More Rest and Acclimatization
My favorite part about today’s trek is arriving at Samdo early. Accessible Adventure strategically designs this short day for trekkers so that they have enough time to relax, recuperate, and get ready for the greater heights that are to come.
Spend the afternoon hiking, exploring the small village, or simply looking out into the surroundings from your teahouse.
Logistics Hack from Accessible Adventure
"Go slow, breathe deep. You're above 12k feet now."
On day 10, smart trekking is the pace we choose to move at as we become aware of how our body is responding, while also being mindful of the effects of being at such a high altitude. The hike from Samagaon to Samdo does not merely focus upon an inclusive approach of attaining further altitudes, but also marks the transition zone to the untouched, savage, and sublime parts of the Himalayas.
The Approach to the High Himalayas
For the Accessible Adventure included Larkya Pass & Manaslu Circuit trek, Day 11 is particularly important and filled with excitement. The path for today goes from Samdo to Dharamsala (also called Larkya Phedi), which has an elevation of 4,460 meters, or 14,633 feet. This is your preparatory step for the exciting Larkya La Pass crossing which is set for tomorrow.
The distance is roughly 7 kilometers, and it will take 4 to 5 hours to complete, with an elevation gain of ~585 meters. Temperatures during the trek are estimated to be between -6 to 8 degrees Celsius, and continues to rise with elevation, making the trek today moderately challenging, both physically and mentally.
Stepping Into the Alpine Wilderness
After the last permanent settlement of Samdo, the landscape becomes markedly devoid of vegetation and very rough. The path makes a slow ascent through alpine meadows, rocking ridges, and moraine fields which were sculpted by ancient glaciers.
While advancing along the trail, one will encounter the glacial streams which may be crossed using rudimentary wooden bridges, making the day’s trek more delightful. In this part of the world, the untouched wilderness has a powerful presence; it is rugged, unrefined, and extraordinarily gorgeous.
Incredible Views of Larkya Glacier
The sight of Larkya Glacier is one of today’s highlights that stand out above the rest. It’s absolutely breathtaking to witness how nature’s pure strength stretches and expands Larkya into a chunky, icy blue and white glacier. Walking side to side with Larkya while being surrounded by valleys gives trekkers one of the best experiences in Himalayas.
In this part of the trek, trekkers also get to see Larkya Peak which is located in the vicinity along with other mountain ranges. The view of these mountain ranges makes the jaw line become sharp.
Spotting Himalayan Wildlife
Look out for blue sheep, Himalayan marmots, and other high-altitude birds as they roam about in this remote region. Finding these Himalayan wildlife animals adds joy to the day which is bound to be surprising as well.
Being so far from civilization offers the unparalleled feeling of quiet which is only broken with the faint whistling of marmots or the distant bleating of blue sheep.
Reaching Dharamsala – The High Camp
As mid-afternoon approaches, you will get to Dharamsala, or Larkya Phedi as it is referred to. This marks your last stop before the Larkyla Pass and serves as the furthest point in your trek. While the accommodation here is quite rudimentary with lodges or tents, they are adequate for rest and shelter.
Elevated Adventures recommends that trekkers hydrate, eat, and rest as much as possible today. The air has less oxygen, is colder, and conserving energy is essential due to the strenuous efforts required for the next stage.
Corporate Reality Check from Accessible Adventure
"This is the most remote overnight — essentials only, mental focus on max."
The complexity and reward that the circuit has to offer requires the trekker to be at an 11 mentally prepared for the harsh landscapes and secluded tranquility that the region offers. Day 11 is only the start of the spiral This day’s leg features astounding sights, including breathtaking scenery: Manaslu mountain. The view certainly lives up to its reputation as the world’s eighth tallest mountain.
Breathe deeply to allow the adrenaline to flood your senses. Once you feel relaxed, your energy reserves replenished, your sore muscles calmed and your breath normalized, the amalgamation of views and your emotions is guaranteed to leave you speechless.
The Big Day Arrives
Day 12 with Accessible Adventure might be the most exciting, challenging, and memorable day of the entire Manaslu Circuit Trek. You will today traverse the iconic Larkya La Pass at 5,165 meters (16,929 feet) — the highest point of your trek — and then descend to the picturesque village of Bimtang (3,590m / 11,778ft).
The trek comprises of roughly 24 kilometers which, when combined with the 8 to 10 hours of hiking time, can both physically and psychologically challenge the individual. This day includes an elevation gain of 705 meters and an elevation loss of 1,575 meters. The Larkya La Pass, like the other passes, is not an exception and during this period the temperature is between -10 to 5°C which means real high altitude adventure trekking.
Early Start Under the Starry Himalayan Sky
It is quiet hours before dawn when the day begins. You will start at Dharamsala where you will leave under the torch’s light as well as begin to make mount under a galaxy of stars. While the situation is cold and harsh, crossing one of the most famous passes in Nepal will surely boost your spirits.
Attempting this early will offer the most safety, the best visibility during morning hours, and winds that tend to calm down during this time of the day in high Himalayas.
Climbing to Larkya La Pass – The Roof of the Trek
The ascent to Larkya La is easy in gradient yet difficult in nature. The trail traverses snow, rock, and glacial moraine. Each step brings one closer to the long colorful line of prayer flags marking the top of the pass.
Reaching the summit of Larkya La is a personal achievement. Standing at 5,165 meters, you are at the highest point of your entire journey. The accomplishment is enormous and the views are nothing short of incredible.
Surrounding you in every direction are snow-capped peaks which overlook you. These include Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru and the majestic Annapurna II, all forming breathtaking 360° panoramas.
The Long, Technical Descent to Bimtang
When you’re done soaking in the views and taking your summit pictures, it’s time to start your descent. The pathway below consists of steep declines interlaced with loose gravel and potentially icy areas. Take your time and watch your step!
You will first notice the change in terrain from snow and rocks to grassy meadows and alpine forests, and the beauty of this path is how it feels after getting the last masterpiece pass.
Arrival at Bimtang – A Well-Deserved Rest
After a long and rewarding descent, you will arrive at Bimtang which is one of the stunning valleys encircled by imposing peaks. The contrast between the pass which is a stark and barren and Bimtang which is peaceful and beautiful is striking.
Accessible Adventure makes sure you have comfortable teahouse accommodation where you can relax, reflect, and celebrate the greatest day of your trek. Bimtang truly is the reward for your hard effort given that the combination of warm meals, fluffy blankets, and majestic mountains create an unparalleled setting.
Peak Experience from Accessible Adventure
"One pass, infinite bragging rights."
Standing on Larkya La Pass is not only a trekking achievement, but also a personal one. On Day 12, the trek challenges one's stamina, calmness, and grit more than anything else. Regardless, the thrill, breathtaking views, and being on top of the world—literally— are why it’s all worth it. This is the day you will remember for a lifetime.
Descending Back into Life and Color
Day 13 maps out another exhilarating journey of the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Accessible Adventure which begins with the Larkya La Pass. On this day, you begin with a gentle stroll from Bimtang (3,590m / 11,778ft) to Tilije (2,300m / 7,546ft). Unlike the other days, this trek is far more simplistic. Over the course of approximately 6 to 7 hours, the trek leads you to descend around 1,300 meters over a 17 kilometer stretch.
While the temperature is a pleasant 5–18°C, the focal point of this day is about enjoying the warm weather while watching the shifts in scenery and allowing the force of gravity effortlessly control your pace as you descend to lower altitudes.
Leaving the High Mountains Behind
You'll begin your descent into the sub-alpine zone from the serene valley of Bimtang. The morning sun unveils magnificent views of Manaslu's south face and the Phungi Himal further - a breathtaking goodbye to the mountain region where you’ve resided.
At the lower parts of the trail, the desolate and stony scenery is replaced with greener meadows and hills.
Re-Entering the Tree Line
The route leads you back into the tree line where one can find forests of rhododendrons, oaks and pine trees. In spring, the blooming of the rhododendrons infuses vibrant red and pink hues throughout the trails.
The aroma of the trees, along with the rivers gushing underneath them, creates a tranquil environment perfect for trekking to soothe the stress brought on by the rough icy conditions of the previous days.
Crossing Wooden Bridges and Passing Remote Villages
En route, you will pass little wooden bridges that were created over the frozen mountain rivers that are supplied by glaciers. These bridges not only beautify the journey but also provide excellent areas where one can rest and take stunning photographs.
While moving through the tiny towns such as Gho and Kharche, you will catch a glimpse of the rural life in the mountains which includes; the farming that is done in steps, animals that are round and stones housing that is settled amongst lush hills that are green.
Arriving at Tilije – Comfort and Warmth Return
The day concludes in the scenic apple growing village of Tilije as you trek through the spectacular foothills and accompanying them. Like most developments in Apple Teahouse, this one too, complements the local economy and tourism, so it doubles up as a place to drink tea, grab that tasty slice of apple pie which is bound to splendid the hiker.
Every trekkers dream is a startling ratio of pure enjoyment, Tepui together with splendid views. Accessible Adventures guarantee you will spend the night in comfort in the spectacular foothills of the Himalayas.
Grab some coffee and apple-tea pie, a delicacy of this area. The stunning village of Andalai, the resting place for hikers and pulse of the Himalayas will bring you to the ideal point while also reflecting the whole trekking experience you can reminisce about.
Downhill Mindset from Accessible Adventure
"Let gravity do the work — knees on duty."
Today being day 13 serves as a lovely example of how the trails further serve to diversify features such as snow and ice to forests as well as serene villages. For my knees, today is all about the enjoyment that comes with the descent as well as the slow but steady return to civilized life.
The Final Stretch of the Manaslu Circuit Trek
On day 14 of your expedition with Accessible Adventure, you are nearing the completion of your remarkable journey. The adventure starts with a deceptively simple layout; trekking from Tilije (2,300m / 7,546ft) to Dharapani (1,410m / 4,625ft) is a pleasant walk of around 10 kilometers which will require 3-4 hours to complete. Enjoy the warm weather that ranges from 10–22°C while completing a gentle descent of almost 900 meters. This day is relaxing and ideal for celebration.
With a single deep breath, you strike the balance between the Himalayan mountains to the rugged trails of the famous Annapurna Circuit while the adventure transforms from the wilderness back to cozy comforts.
Walking Through Thonje and Merging with the Annapurna Circuit
While coming down from Tilije, the route displays spectacular scenery of farms and small hills, oak and rhododendron forests, and quiet villages. This delightful village of Thonje with its exquisite traditional houses and warmth of the people will be inviting, before you proceed to Dharapani.
Now you officially join the Annapurna Circuit route, one of Nepal's most revered trekking routes. You may notice the trails a bit busier, the teahouses a bit more commercially inclined, and the general atmosphere more plugged into civilization.
Final Permit Checks at Dharapani
Right before reaching Dharapani, there is one last critical point of interest — the last checkpoint for your Manaslu Conservation Area Permit and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. This is a significant monument marking the endpoint of your journey through the beautiful and more remote areas of Manaslu region.
The hard work spent acquiring various permits is akin to completing an epic tale, only to be welcomed by the hustle and bustle of metropolitan splendor.
Coming back to Lush Forests and Waterfall Vistas
The forest teeming with birdsong, rushing waterfalls, and flowing streams add to the charms of nature.
As the valley comes to light, the panoramic view from above transforms to reveal the landscape which is more welcoming and soothing as opposed to the frigid alpine world.
The vibrant greenery and terraced rice paddies indicate that we are once again arriving to the fertile lands and valleys of lower Nepal.
Reaching Dharapani – Comfort Returns
Finally reaching Dharapani feels like coming back from the wilds - it has everything you could want. The teahouses have everything from soft beds and hot showers to Wi-Fi, all luxuries after the adventure of the Manaslu Circuit.
The comforts of civilization are a welcome surprise.
Accessible Adventure ensures you have a delightful teahouse stay here, allowing you some time to rest, recuperate, and enjoy your last evening on the trail. After spending days trekking, nothing is as rewarding as hot showers, warm meals, soft beds, and the unmatched serenity they provide.
Transition Note from Accessible Adventure
"You’re officially out of the Manaslu zone — what a journey."
On day 14, you will relax into the serene comfort you have grown familiar with, as you cherish the memories of powerful new lands you have explored. The trek around Manaslu was full of struggle, beauty, and strength. Finally arriving in Dharapani feels like a well-deserved reward; however, it does bring an end to the stunning scenery and wildlife, rich culture, and, buses of honking tourists commonly associated with Nepal’s villages.
The Long Road Home
Day 15 of the journey marks the final travel day of the Manaslu Circuit with Accessible Adventure. After spending days walking through isolated mountains, you will now shift from trekking to driving as you take a vehicle from Dharapani to Kathmandu, a drive of about 230 kilometers that takes 9-10 hours.
The drive is via rough mountain roads which lead to Besisahar. After Besisahar, there are smoother highways that lead to the capital. The temperature during the day increases to between 18–28°C. Overall, this trip is long and bumpy, but highly satisfying as you mentally tally all that you have accomplished during this journey.
One Last Glimpse of the Himalayas
Be sure to take one last look at the spectacular Himalayas before starting your drive; they will not be visible for much longer. Although the mountains slowly fade from view, the memories will last a lifetime.
Dharapani’s alpine hills are linked to the town of Besisahar, which serves as the gateway town and welcome hub for the rest of the world. All charming valleys and river banks. While driving, keep a lookout for the small, stunning, and picturesque villages which might be missed if you stare out to the vast accompanying nature.
Roadside Delights – Taste of Nepal
A notable highlight of the drive today is the opportunity to en route local snacks by the roadside. Don’t miss Nepali sel roti (sweet rice donuts) and freshly fried vegetable pakodas sold in small tea shops along the route.
Together with steaming cups of spiced Nepali tea, these snacks become an unforgettable memory of your return journey.
Transition from Wild Trails to City Life
From Besisahar, as you rejoin the highway, the cultivations expose glimpse of a serene landscape that is now busy vibrant market centers, places of trade to the buzzing Kathmandu Valley.
After two weeks encased in the mountains, surrounded by nature, rural life, and feeling the pulse of serene simplicity, reaching Khatmandu feels surreal. The contrast is equally humbling and epic, reminding me just how far and wide my trekking adventure truly was.
Arrival in Thamel – Comfort and Celebration
Returning to Kathmandu, in the energetic Thamel area, Accessible Adventure meets you with an enhanced hotel accommodation — plush beds, warm showers, and a hint of modern comfort life after rustic trekking.
The day comes to an end with a special dinner party with all the people who trekked with you over the days. It’s a moment to reminisce, lift a toast, retell adventures, chuckle over trail journeys, and relish the unparalleled feeling of accomplishment that a trek like the Manaslu Circuit offers.
Executive Debrief from Accessible Adventure
"What a re-entry. Brief the soul on what it just accomplished."
Today’s journey is a complete circle—in a city only previously visited. The mountains may be behind you, but the lessons they taught you, the beauty they had, and the challenges faced will always be a part of you forever. Day 15 is about being grateful, reflecting on the past, and celebrating not only for reaching the final destination of Kathmandu city but everything that has been conquered through heart, body, and spirit.
The Bittersweet Goodbye
With Day 16, you conclude your journey of the Manaslu Circuit with Accessible Adventure. After the incredible trekking, mountain vistas, culture, self-discovery, and many personal milestones accomplished, it is time to part ways with Nepal, at least for now.
This part of the trip is short but very sentimental. Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu is a 30-45-minute drive from your accommodation and the journey is packed with unforgettable memories that will stay with you for a long time–or even a lifetime. During your last few hours in Nepal when the temperature is a pleasant 20-28 degrees Celsius, it is the best opportunity to reflect, interact, and soak up every last moment.
Souvenir Shopping and Breakfast Wrap-Up
If your schedule permits, you may even have a few free hours for souvenir shopping in Thamel. This would be a great opportunity to purchase crafted souvenirs, singing bowls, vibrant prayer flags, or even that t-shirt celebrating trekking that truly captures the spirit.
Maybe, you'd want to relax and enjoy one last meal in Nepal which could be strong coffee from the Himalayas, momos, or a serving of dal bhat which can energize you for your travels.
Emotional Goodbyes with Your Trekking Family
The toughest part is always the last goodbye. Parting ways with the guides, porters, and fellow trekkers you have journeyed with will definitely feel like leaving family behind. You will see photographs being taken, handshakes being exchanged, hugs being given, and misty eyes as they separate from the team that stood beside them during the ups and downs of the mountains.
With Accessible Adventure, you are guaranteed that your adventure will end the same way it began — with warmth, appreciation, and deep respect.
Private Airport Transfer and One Last Glimpse
Your private transfer to the airport provides you with an opportunity to glimpse the life of Kathmandu as it flows through the window. While taking off in your plane, remember to look out the window for one last sight of the gorgeous Himalayas. They will always be the snow-capped mountains that challenged, humbled, and inspired you.
Nepal Stays With You
As Accessible Adventure loves to say, “You leave Nepal, but Nepal doesn’t leave you.”
The majestic Manaslu Circuit- its soaring summits, quaint villages, glimmering night skies, and warmhearted locals- stays with you on a deeper, emotional level, much after you've returned from your travels.
